For National Road Safety week Blackwood Primary and Nursery Class were involved in raising awareness of driving and parking issues with parents and the wider community.

Their Junior Road Safety Officers worked closely with Marion Shearer from South Lanarkshire Council to produce a leaflet which will highlight safe places to park and encourage pupils with their parents to walk to school.

But the school also took part in a national competition organised by Recognition Express, a UK supplier of school name badges and clothing, in partnership with BRAKE, the national road safety charity, to design a banner to promote road safety, and Elise Ward in Primary 6 was delighted to hear that she was the winner of this.

Elise (aged 10) was presented with a trophy and her design now hangs on a banner outside the school – a visual reminder for everyone to “DRIVE LESS AND LIVE MORE!”
