Audrey Wadsworth, community shop development officer for the west of Scotland, says the situation in the Douglas Street shop has ‘become desperate.’

They are looking for people to help them in any way they can - from customer service to sorting out donations in the back.

Audrey said: “We need volunteers short or long term, for example for a full day, one to two hours, a full morning or full afternoon so that we can keep the shop open.

“This has been sadly lacking over the past few weeks and the shop has been forced to close regularly.

“Our volunteeers are one of our best assets - we have some of the most dedicated people giving up their time but we need more to be able to open our doors to the community.

“If we don’t get volunteers the shop will have to remain closed which is a real loss for everyone.

“Anyone with an interest in supporting Shelter Scotland or learning new skills is welcome. It’s a fun and enjoyable environment to work in.

“Everyone who joins us does so in the knowledge that their time and efforts are so appreciated and go a long way in our fight against homelessness and bad housing.

“Every penny we raise in the shop goes towards our work to ensure that no one faces bad housing and homelessness alone.”

People of all ages and level of experience can volunteer.

You will receive training in all aspects of retail including stock control, pricing, visual merchandising, how to use the till, banking and administration.

Audrey added: “Working here is great fun and you get to meet some great people.

“And if you are looking for work at the moment this experience will look great on your CV.”

Pop in and chat to a volunteer if you would like to help. They also need regular donation of clothes, shoes, handbags, CDs, DVDs and books.
