Jason Bell, prosecuting, said the house occupier is employed by Mercedes and the vehicle stolen was a company car.

Mr Bell told the court: “He secured the vehicle, put the key on a ledge inside the front door of the house and went to bed.

“The next morning he saw the keys and the car were missing. A toilet window was broken and the lock had been forced. This was how the house had been broken into.”

Police were alerted and due to the tracker device the car was traced to a lock-up in Cumbernauld.
