Dog owners offered the chance of free chips

Charity Dogs Trust has launched it’s ‘Free Microchipping Through Vets in Scotland’ campaign to offer all dog owners the opportunity to microchip their pet free of charge through participating local vet practices.

The scheme comes after it was announced that microchipping is set to be made compulsory for all dogs in Scotland from April 2016.

It is in addition to the already successful roaming microchipping service Dogs Trust has been running in Scotland, which has seen more than 16,000 dogs microchipped since its launch in 2013.

With an estimated 32 per cent of dogs in Scotland still unchipped - demand for the procedure is likely to be significant over the coming months.
