Douglas family’s musical legacy for hospital

Jane died in January last year, aged 91, and her family were so overwhelmed by the kindness of the staff at the cottage hospital that a few weeks ago they held a cabaret night – in which many of them performed – to raise funds as a thank you.

The event, held in Douglas Bowling Club, sold out fast, with many people unable to get tickets and businesses rallied round with prizes.

It was such a success that family, ranging right down to Lily Jane, Jane Crawford’s youngest great-great-granddaughter who has just had her first birthday, went back to the hospital to hand over a cheque for £1133.

That was given to voluntary group the Friends of Lady Home Hospital to provide musical therapy in the future.

Making the presentation, grand-daughter Lynn Connor said that Jane, their Nana, had been dedicated to her family and they had loved her more than words could express.

“Personally, I loved and was loved by her for 35 years,” said Lynn at the presentation.

“I was at peace knowing that she was cared for in her last days by the staff at Lady Home Hospital.

“The care provided to her and our family was tremendous, genuine and beyond the call of duty.”

They had wanted to thank the hospital for that care.

Lynn explained: “We are a musical family and felt that we could use our skills to raise money for this gem of a hospital.”
