Douglas Primary pupil Lynzi, together with Champion Declan Dewar and other members of the Gala Court, had a great time as everyone in the village turned out to view or take part in this year’s procession.

Many people in the village had obviously had their thinking caps on throughout the year and produced some colourful costumes for the occasion.

Among those taking part were the Minions (who seem to be at every gala this year), WWE wrestlers and gladi-eaters.

Douglas Gala always has its fair share of funnies and this year was no exception with the comical costumes coming from all across the globe including Bollywood, the Orient Express and even Burns’ own Tam O’Shanter who popped along to the proceedings.

However, the main event was the crowning of Queen Lynzi before a variety of activities at Crabtree Park.

The Gala Day itself brought to a close a tremendous week of entertainment in the village.

Events included the annual men’s football match, between the married and single men of the village, and the It’s A Knockout afternoon, which saw plenty of teams competing for the top prize.

Freelance photographer Katherine Sutherland was on hand to capture all the action for the Gazette and her pictures are featured in our slideshow, created for your viewing pleasure by Gazette Editor Julie Currie.
