Driver dies in M74 crash

Fatal crash happened on M74 near Bothwell.

A driver has died following a crash on the M74 near Bothwell.

The 21-year-old man was driving a blue Ford Fiesta south when he apparently lost control shortly after 11pm on Saturday.

It happened between Bothwell services and the Raith interchange. His vehicle crossed the central reservation, collided with a lamppost and overturned.

The driver was taken to Monklands District General Hospital where he died a short time after admission.

Police have not yet named him.

Sergeant Craig McDonald, of the divisional road policing Unit in Motherwell, said: “We are trying to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident and I‘d like to speak to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police
