Jamie Taylor became involved with a scuffle with police officers outside the ground where Motherwell were playing Celtic in an SPL game on April 9.

He admitted an offence under the controversial Offensive Behaviour at Football Act and Sheriff Douglas Brown used the legislation to impose the ban which is designed to prevent Taylor from attending matches anywhere in the UK.

Taylor (22), of Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted shouting abuse and struggling with police.

An allegation that he tried to gain entry to the ground while drunk was dropped.

Taylor, who has no previous convictions, was also fined £320. It’s understood he is appealing against the stadium ban.

The legislation has been criticised regularly since its introduction in 2012. Fans’ groups and politicians argue that supporters have been hit by heavy punishments for conduct that would go unpunished if it hadn’t taken place at a football stadium.
