Eaglesham girls take best newcomer award

It’s been a big week for Eaglesham singers Rachelle and Brittany Davies, who were crowned best newcomer act at the Unsigned Scottish Pop Music Awards on Saturday.

The twins (15) featured in The Extra last week after receiving a tweet of support from Rod Stewart for their first single, Shout Out, released in memory of friend Heather.

The Mearns Castle High pupils set out to boost sales — in aid of mental health charity YoungMinds — by sending their video all over the world, and dad Derek told The Extra that they were delighted to hear from rocker Rod. He added: “It’s not every day you hear from a megastar — it’sbrilliant.”

But the celebrations had to be put on hold as Rachelle and Brittany geared up for a live performance at the Unsigned awards at the Classic Grand — and their hard work paid off, giving the Davies family yet another reason to celebrate.

Proud mum Kim said: “Brittany said they wished to accept the award in memory of Heather, and also their Uncle Sammy, who passed away earlier this year — their biggest fan.”

The single is available to buy on iTunes, Spotify and from online music stores.

Brittany said: “If we can help just one person with Shout Out, all the hard work will be worthwhile.”
