East Ren council appeals to public to name new nursery

A new family centre to serve Busby and Clarkston is set to open for the 2015/16 school session and education chiefs are asking for suggestions on a name for the centre.

The £9.6m nursery is to be built on a site at Newford Grove, Busby and it will serve the communities of Busby, Clarkston and Eaglesham.

New government legislation is set to increase children’s entitlement to pre-school education, from 570 hours to 600 hours per school session.

As it will be open for 50 weeks of the year, parents may use the centre during holiday periods.

A spokeswoman said: “Initially, there will be 60 places in the morning and 60 in the afternoon but this may increase to 90 for both sessions if additional resources become available in future.”

At the consultation stage, a site in the Newford Grove area was identified as a possible location.

The report stated: “There is the prospect of further capital funding from the Scottish Government to support the entitlement to 600 hours of early learning and childcare, details of which are awaited.

“Should additional sufficient resources become available, the family centre could increase to a 90:90 place facility. At present this is estimated to cost an additional £257,108.”
