East Ren pupils put pen to paper

BUDDING authors at Crookfur primary and Eastwood high schools celebrated a successful reading festival recently.

Primary sevens from the Newton Mearns school joined S1 Eastwood pupils in a variety of activities throughout the reading week, including welcoming authors Joan Lennon, Ron Fairweather and John Fardell.

Each of the special guests held storytelling and writing workshops, and Crookfur’s depute head teacher Gillian Graham told The Extra: “Ron Fairweather told great stories – some were very funny, and some were very scary.

“Joan Lennon was really funny and everyone had a great time during her writing workshop – she provided great ideas for starting stories.

“This has helped us to develop creativity in our story writing and our understanding of different texts from a variety of genres.”

Miss Graham added that, following the author visits, “we definitely have some budding writers in our midst”.
