The annual event celebrates all the fantastic programmes, initiatives and volunteering young people from the area get involved and excel in and with 2018 being the Year of Young People, the winners didn’t disappoint.

The award winners included representatives from the LGBTI community, MSYPs, youth clubs, the parenting programme and various school activity groups. Marissa Roxburgh picked up the Ray McHugh Good Samaritan Award for her volunteering in the community.

Community Services and Community Safety Convener, Councillor Colm Merrick, who attended on the night, said: “I was absolutely honoured to go along to the event and hear such inspiring stories of the work our local young people have undertaken.

“The Year of Young People has been a fantastic project to be part of and it has really shone a light on East Renfrewshire and although it is nearing its end, I am in no doubt that these young people will continue to amaze us.”

East Renfrewshire Council’s Young Persons Service works with over 1,500 young people in the community and in schools around issues that matter to them.

Young people develop their own learning and are encouraged to make decisions and influence their programme content; as far as possible, the programmes are aimed at those young people most in need.
