East Renfrewshire is one of the best places to live in the UK, according to the latest survey.

Based on crime rates, living costs, salaries and amenities like fast broadband or hours of sunshine, the area — along with Renfrewshire and Inverclyde climbed the ranks to 10th place in the uSwitch Quality of Life Index 2015.

Councillor Jim Swift, for Newton Mearns South, commented: “I agreed that it’s likely to be among the best places to live in the UK, and I’m heartened to see so many Scottish contenders.

“I travel a great deal in the UK and, despite the pressures to develop locally, East Ren is a great place, considering the much greater pressure on housing, roads and public services elsewhere.”

It’s a leap for the area, which is 102 places up on last year’s results — reflected across the board, with high scores for many Scottish regions.

And Glasgow may have come in at 51 (out of 138 areas) — but that’s a jump of 84 places from 2014.

The capital claimed number one on the list, with Edinburgh’s average salary clocking in at £29,588 and high disposable income at £20,083.

South Lanarkshire (5th) and North Lanarkshire (8th) also made the grade, while none of the bottom 10 are in Scotland.
