East Ren’s money advice is better by comparison

And he’s encouraging locals to log on to a comparison web site and see just how much they could save by switching regular outgoings such as pet insurance, buildings and contents insurance, gas and electricity suppliers, tv and internet suppliers and car insurance.

Comparing outgoings is just one of the ways residents can make the most of their cash. And to help them balance their own books East Renfrewshire Council’s money advice team has put together a special pack. ‘Make the most of your money’ includes tips on budgeting and cutting costs, ways to generate extra cash and how to get help with debt.

It also contains a calculator and notebook which can help people stay in control of their spending.

Derek Paterson, money advisor, said: “Just taking an afternoon to compare my household outgoings has really paid off. My total annual saving is just over £1300! It’s a big saving I now intend to review on an annual basis.”
