Eastwood artists spruce up Patterton rail station

Arty pupils from Eastwood High have brightened up the commute for Patterton station users.

The railway station now sports colourful paintings by art students from the nearby school, thanks to the efforts of councillor Charlie Gilbert, who arranged the display with Abellio ScotRail.

The station is the nearest to Eastwood High and is used by pupils who live in Neilston and Uplawmoor for travelling to and from school.

The seven large panels hold some of the best examples of work — and they may be worth more in years to come if the pupils move on to art school.

Councillor Gilbert — who borrowed the idea from Barrhead station, where artwork by Barrhead High pupils is on show — told The Extra: “ScotRail agreed immediately and the school will be able to display further artwork in the future.

“It is hoped that this will lead to pupils graduating to studies, for instance at art colleges, and developing their careers.”

Stuart Maxwell, Eastwood High head teacher, said that it was great to see the paintings in prominent position, adding that it is “an excellent showcase for the terrific work that is being done in our art classes”.
