Many people will be sad to hear that The Barber Shop on Stewart Street, Milngavie has closed after being in the village for over 25 years.

“The Barber” also known as “Front Room Hairdressing” opened in 7 Stewart Street, Milngavie in November 1991 in the “front room” of what was in years gone by “a room and kitchen with outside toilet” of an old tenement.

They now plan to concentrate on their other salon “The Barber Too” which opened in 189 Hyndland Road in Glasgow’s West End in March 2009.

Salon owner Carolyn Jarvie said: “I’d like to thank you all for coming over the last 25 years.

“I’ve seen generation after generation and babies growing up to being 20 something year old men.

“It was Jack’s barbers for 27 years prior to me taking it over so for over half a century it has been a barbers. “I’ve met a lot of friends through that wee shop and it was always a real sense of community too.

“I will miss it as will Erika but due to several family commitments I have to step back now and reduce my working hours.”
