End of the road for Hampden?

The final whistle? Hampdens time as home to the national side may be up.

It emerged this week that the SFA, which is 14 years into a 20-year lease at the national stadium, is considering its options.

At the end of the lease, Scotland games and cup finals could potentially move to Celtic Park, Ibrox or even Murrayfield.

A consultancy firm are currently investigating the pros and cons of all options.

However, Queen’s Park general manager Christine Wright believes the SFA are just doing what any large business would do.

She said: “One of these options is leaving Hampden and it would have been strange if it had not been in the mix.

“We were not aware of the consultant hired by the Scottish FA producing options however as far as we are concerned it is business as usual.

“We have a good relationship and I am sure both parties will continue to work together for the best interests of Scottish football.

“Our relationship is unique in that we own the ground and the Governing Body rent it from us but Queen’s Park are a unique club.”

Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan said: “It is our duty to proactively explore all of the options available, in consultation with key stakeholders from across the game so that, in due course, we can make the correct decision for Scottish football.

“Given its historical importance worldwide and its place in Scottish football, Hampden Park remains a key pillar of the national game.”

The Scottish FA has submitted an application to play three group games and a round-of-16 tie for the 24- team Euro 2020 tournament, which will be staged across Europe.
