Engineering student Jack wins scholarship

Gifted young student Jack Berg has been named among the brightest young engineers after winning a prestigious scholarship from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Jack, from Milngavie, has won the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Undergraduate Scholarship Award which will contribute to his study at the University of Edinburgh.

The scholarships were presented to top engineering students in the UK at a ceremony at the Institution’s headquarters in London at the end of last Wednesday.

Jon Hilton, President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said: “Jack has proven himself to be among the most promising young engineers and I was delighted to present him with the award.

“With the pace of technological change getting ever faster it is a really exciting time to be starting an engineering career and it great to see talented students like Jack already making his mark. Engineers are of vital importance. We need to continue to highlight the need for science and engineering in the UK and recognise its importance as we strive to move forward.

“I am confident that Jack will enjoy a successful and exciting career in engineering.”

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers was established in 1847 and has some of the world’s greatest engineers in its history books. It currently has about 113,000 members, representing mechanical engineers involved in a diversity of fields such as the automotive, rail, aerospace, medical, power and construction industries.
