Abronhill woman's book triumph

A creative writing student from Abronhill has published a volume of poetry in her battle against anxiety and depression.

Charlene McElhinney (20) from Almond Road in Abronhill penned ‘Melancholy Mind’ to sum up the experiences that have cast a shadow over the last few years of her life.

A former pupil of Our Lady’s High School who now attends City of Glasgow College, Charlene said: “I wanted to try and convey what goes on in the mind of a depressive and explore different ways of coping and ‘recovering’

“I stayed in silence for sol long and I don’t want anyone else to feel as alone as I did during my darker days.

“I hope that the book brings comfort to people who suffer from mental health issues.

“I also would like to reach out to people who don’t know that much about mental health and open their eyes to how serious it really is.

“I hope that people can resonate with my poetry and take something from it.

“I used to feel vulnerable and scared to share my thoughts and feelings.

“Now writing about it and sharing it with others is one of my greatest therapies.”
