The aim of the event at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility was to provide the local community with an opportunity to offer their views on the proposed design and to have their say on the civic park proposals.

The current design for the former steelworks site includes a sports pitch for year round multi games use, play facilities for all age groups and an events space to enable local groups to use the park.

A further consultation event will be held at the sports facility on Tuesday, November 27, from 3.30-7.30pm where firm proposals will be on view before a formal planning application is submitted to North Lanarkshire Council.

Councillor Wilson is very impressed with the plans and is encouraging constituents to attend the consultation event in November and to complete an online survey where members of the public can submit their own comments on the proposals.

He said: “I was hugely impressed with the plans on show for the civic park and it was great to hear from the organisers that many people had been stopping by throughout the day to engage with the proposals.

“The design for the civic park incorporates a range of facilities from a multi-use sports pitch to a play park and is a very exciting development all round.

‘I would certainly encourage constituents to attend the consultation event in November and to voice their own priorities for the civic park by completing the online survey’.

“Ravenscraig is one of the largest vacant sites in Europe following the closure of the steelworks in 1992 and it is fantastic to see such an exciting proposal being brought forward as part of its re-development.”
