Cumbernauld favourite Lincoln has passed away

A Shire horse which became a giant favourite in Cumbernauld has sadly passed away after suffering a fall, it has emerged.

Lincoln (11) who stood at just under six foot 10 inches or 21 hands was the biggest horse in Britain - and spent some time being cared for at Tannoch Stables.

He had been re-homed after being bought for £450 after suffering the after effects of ill treatment.

A hearty daily diet of 26lbs of carrots, 24 apples, 11lbs of spinach and four or five cabbages soon put that right - and his profile spread, prompting enquiries about him from all across the globe.

Lincoln was owned by Ruth Blair from Cumbernauld - who had to make the heartbreaking decision to him put down after the fall a farm in Inchinnan

Specialists had been drafted in to try and save the 141 stone animal but sadly it was not to be

Mrs Blair has said: “I was so sad when he had to be put to sleep but I know he had been given a good life on the farm for the last six years. He was a wonderful animal and always a source of curiosity fore people . I know I will never have another animal quite like him.”
