Plea to make road apermanent fixture

A temporary access road to Cumbernauld’s Allanfaulds Road should be made permanent, according to local MSP Jamie Hepburn.

Together with Cumbernauld South councillor Paddy Hogg he’s calling for the council and housing body Sanctuary to set the seal on a route they argue will greatly benefit local residents.

Congestion and difficult access are said to have been main reasons for installing the access road in the first place.

Mr Hepburn said: “At present a temporary road has been installed by Sanctuary Cumbernauld in order to gain easier access to their current site at the bottom of Allanfauld Road. “

The MSP added: “Due to the works already undertaken by Sanctuary Cumbernauld and the nature of Seafar Road at that location, the road could be adopted as part of the local network without the undertaking of overly inconvenient substantive works.

Councillor Hogg said: “The benefits of maintaining the new access road to Allanfauld Road are clear to anyone who has been to the area, and makes sense given local concerns about road safety and congestion.

“I will continue to press this issue with the local authority in the hope that they see the benefits of the temporary road and the improvement it makes to the access of the Allanfauld Road area.”

“I too have been contacted by local residents who would like to see the road remain. The benefits of maintaining the new access road to Allanfauld Road are clear to anyone who has been to the area.”

Councillor Hogg added: “It makes sense given local concerns about road safety and congestion.
