A concerned member of the public spotted the chickens in the village and contacted the charity’s animal helpline on Wednesday.

So far seven of the eight runaway roosters and hens have been contained.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer, Sarah Parker, said, “We think the chickens were a mix of Rhode Island Reds and Welsummers. They were discovered just past the primary school.

“I attended with my colleague Kirsty Baird as I knew we would need more than one pair of hands to catch free-running chickens!

“There was a lot of chasing going on but we managed to contain seven of the eight birds that were there. We’ve since heard three more have been spotted in the area.

“It was quite a hilarity filled rescue but the bottom line is someone has abandoned these animals and we would like to appeal to the public to provide any information that might help our enquiry.
