South Lanarkshire Earth Hour celebrations

Help save our planet...one light at a time with Earth Hour on Saturday, March 29, from 8.30pm

Carluke High youngsters, along with pupils from Rigside and Biggar Primary Schools, have been learning all about the campaign.

Lights will be turned off at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 29, for one hour in support of tackling climate change.

Council leader Councillor Eddie McAvoy said: “By 2010, 134 countries/territories participated and Scotland became the first country to secure support from 100 per cent of its cities and local authorities.

“Iconic buildings such as Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Parliament and Falkirk Wheel joined the switch off alongside the Sydney Opera House, Eiffel Tower and the Pyramids of Giza.

“It would be great to see as many local people as possible taking up this opportunity to protect our planet – not just for one hour, but every day.

“WWF’s Earth Hour is so much more than just an hour; we need to look after our wonderful planet all year round.”

Director of WWF Scotland, Lang Banks, added: “Earth Hour is our planet’s time to shine and we hope everyone will feel inspired to join in.”
