Traffic chaos for southside drivers

Residents and drivers alike are being warned that essential roadworks are likely to cause traffic difficulties for several weeks in the southside.

Scotland TranServ, working on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out a programme of works on the Nithsdale Road bridge over the M77 which is located west of Bellahouston Park, beginning on November 8.

Over £120,000 of works will be carried out to improve the quality of the road surface, waterproof the bridge deck and carry out concrete repairs and joint replacement.

“We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption. The safety of operatives and road users is of the utmost importance therefore works will be carried out under a series of closures and a local diversion will be implemented during this time” said a spokesman for the company.

The dates for the work are as follows: Sunday, November 8 – overnight total closure from 8pm to 6am

Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday, November 22 - overnight total closures 8pm to 6am

Friday 4 and Saturday, December 5 - overnight total closures 8pm to 6am

Outwith these closure dates traffic lights will be operational on a full-time basis beginning Sunday, November 8 to Sunday, December 6.

Gordon Wilson, contract director, Scotland TranServ said:“It is essential that we carry out this scheme to improve Nithsdale Road bridge; benefiting local residents and motorists for years to come.

“We have done everything we can to plan these works in order to minimise disruption to local residents and the travelling public, however I would urge motorists to leave plenty of time for their journeys.”

Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to inform motorists that roadworks are taking place and diversionary routes will be posted accordingly, using Dumbreck Road and St Andrew’s Drive for the duration of the repair works on the Nithsdale Road bridge.
