ER schools claim an eco first for Scotland

Some 1,900 schools hold the Eco Schools Green Flag — an initiative run by Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB).

But with Williamwood High, Isobel Mair School and Family Centre receiving their Green Flag status earlier this year, East Ren now boasts a full house.

Councillor Vincent Waters met school representatives and KSB’s education and learning coordinator, Alastair Davidson, at Rouken Glen Park this week.

The environment convener said: “Congratulations to everyone involved for their endeavours. To be the first area in Scotland where all secondary schools have achieved Green Flag status is quite a feat.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our schools and shows how staff and pupils’ achievements in demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainability.

“It really shows that our younger generation cares and do all they can for their local and global environment.”

Derek Robertson, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “I am delighted that East Ren Council has achieved this status for all of its secondary schools and is leading the way in Scotland. We look forward to supporting other local authorities, parents, teachers and pupils to ensure that every school has the opportunity to raise a Green Flag award.”
