Excellent report for Mearns primary

MEARNS primary school has received gold stars across the board with seven excellent ratings and one very good in an Education Scotland inspection.

The school — the larest in East Renfrewshire, with more than 920 pupils across nursery and primary ages — was visited by inspectors in June.

Staff were praised for their team work, as well as the school’s “outstanding quality of children’s learning and achievement”.

Head teacher Ann Macbeth — now retired after nine years at Mearns primary — was labelled an “outstanding and inspirational” leader, and the school’s “inclusive ethos with a clear focus on global citizenship” was also noted.

Councillor Elaine Green, convener for education and equalities, commented: “Congratulations to all the staff and pupils at Mearns primary for a truly excellent report. The education provided by the school is described as excellent across the board.

“It’s wonderful to read that the inspectors consider the quality of learning and achievement as outstanding, that children are making very strong progress in their learning, and that staff are supporting the pupils to learn so effectively.”
