Expert slates plans for new town outside Lanark

A DAMNING report from one of the nation’s most respected planning experts, Dr Howard Ashton, predicts that Lanark could become a “ghost town” if the Owenstown project goes ahead.

As reported previously, the ambitious scheme to create 3200 new homes for a population of 8000 in the Douglas Valley near Rigside was met with general approval when first unveiled two years ago.

However, now that the planning permission application to build it has been lodged with South Lanarkshire Council, some are having second thoughts.

The Lanark Business Group has lodged an objection on the grounds of the economic impact Owenstown might have on the Royal Burgh.
