Eyesore building in Queenzieburn made secure

A derelict building in Queenzieburn which has been labelled an ‘eyesore’ has been made secure by North Lanarkshire Council.

Worried residents had contacted Kilsyth councillor Alan Stevenson and MSP Jamie Hepburn to express their concern about the state of the building, which once housed the Country Inn and Beacon Inn.

Mr Hepburn had written to the North Lanarkshire Council to ask they act immediately to deal with the building but the local authority had already taken action to repair it.

Mr Hepburn said: “It is clear to anyone driving past this building that it has been allowed to fall into a serious state of disrepair.

“For local residents it as an eyesore and is potentially dangerous.”

Councillor Stevenson added: “The proximity to the popular local playing fields is also a concern, as it is not safe for anyone to walk through given the amount of broken glass and litter at the back of the site.”
