help for Fraser

Extra readers who took the story of Newton Mearns youngster Fraser McAlpine to heart can now follow his fundraising progress on Facebook.

The Isobel Mair pupil appeared in The Extra recently as mum Joanne told The Extra that the family were raising money to fund an assistance dog for Fraser’s 11th birthday.

Joanne hopes that a specially-trained dog can help Fraser, who has Down’s Syndrome and autism, to cope better with everyday tasks, and to communicate his needs. She told The Extra: “Helping Fraser realise his full potential would mean the world to our family, and raising the funds would be a fantastic birthday gift for him.”

The family are aiming for £6,000 for a new best friend from Service Dogs Europe - and many readers were quick to ask how best to donate. Now, supporters can visit www.facebook.com/frasersfundraiser for updates. A supporter and admin for the page said: “Please like and share this wonderful little Newton Mearns boy’s page and help raise the funds to get him his future best friend. This would be life-changing for Fraser and we can all make it happen.”
