Famous faces line up for the hall of fame

THE achievements of some of Lanarkshire’s most famous sons and daughters are going to be recognised in a digital hall of fame.

Lanarkshire’s two councils have joined forces to recognise the county’s heroes and achievements over the past 200-years.

The specially created digital hall of fame will be available to a world-wide online audience as part of the year-long Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 events.

The event organisers are asking the public to put forward their suggestions and as it stands some of those already set to appear in the hall of fame include Sir Alexander Gibson, Boyd Tunnock, Christopher Kane, David Colville, Dr David Livingstone, Sir Harry Lauder, Sir James W Black, Keir Hardie, Liz Lochhead, Dr Marion Gilchrist, Mark Millar, Midge Ure, Lanarkshire Recipients of the Victoria Cross, Robert Owen and Stan Laurel.

Ian Livingstone, chairman of Supercounty, Lanarkshire’s Civic Pride Campaign, who are spearheading the campaign, said: “Lanarkshire is an area which has produced so many successful people who have made a great impact on not only this part of Scotland, but also worldwide, some of which are included in our hall of fame.

“We are encouraging people to join in and nominate people they feel have made a great impact on Lanarkshire’s history.”

He added: “To get the hall of fame started, leaders in fashion, business, music and medicine have already been included in the Hall of Fame. Now it’s time for people in Lanarkshire to put forward their suggestions of the great men and women of Lanarkshire who they feel should be given some recognition.”
