Farming advice: get your finances in order

SPRING is inevitably a busy time in the farming calendar, when farmers not only have to battle with the practical elements of the job – lambing, calving and other field work – but must also make sure all the relevant paperwork is completed.

When people are busy it is easy to forget just how important this is, but the financial impact of a penalty for errors and omissions can easily outweigh, for example, the cash value of a saved lamb.

Each year, all farming businesses applying for financial support through the various schemes associated with the Common Agricultural Policy must submit a Single Application Form (SAF) by May 15.
