Fears raised over paperwork from medical centre found dumped in skip

Health chiefs have moved to reassure residents over fears that personal medical records had been dumped in a skip outside a former medical centre.

Photos posted on public Facebook site Lennoxtown Spirit showed mounds of discarded paperwork and equipment belonging to the Lennoxtown Medical Practice

The practice has now moved to new premises at the Lennoxtown Hub.

Donna Jordan, who originally posted the photos on Wednesday, March 11, said: “You could see statements and invoices. I just hope that nobody’s personal medical records are there.

She made a plea to whoever was responsible to “get rid of the skip asap instead of leaving it on the street for all to see.”

She added: “All paperwork that comes out of a medical centre should be shredded.”

But a spokesperson from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde insisted no sensitive information had been left in the skip.

A spokesperson for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “There were no computers or patient information left in a skip outside the old Lennoxtown Medical Practice.

“There is a robust policy for the decommissioning of NHS premises and this was followed rigorously and at no time was there any patient or confidential information
disposed of in the skip.

“We can confirm that for a very short time on the day Lennoxtown Medical Practice moved to new premises at the Lennoxtown Hub some old brochures and equipment, that were no longer required, had been put in a skip for disposal.

“The skip was removed at 2.45 pm immediately after the move was complete.

“The equipment in the skip was a broken Fax machine and an obsolete Fax machine, neither of which stored information, and the furniture items disposed off were no longer fit for purpose.”
