Fiery finish for the Southside Fringe

The second annual Fringe kicked off on May 9 and, after two weeks of packed programming, drew to a close at Poloc Cricket Club.

Organisers thanked the Strathbungo Society and other supporters for donating gazebos to keep the rain out and the barbecue — courtesy of myBiltong — on, and entertainment was provided by Jukebox Jones, Graham Flemming, David Mcsweeney, Howlin Radio and Kim Chaos.

Rounding off the grand finale was fire-eater Meraki, who wowed the crowd with a big finish at midnight.

Fringe founder Crawford Smith told The Extra: “It was a truly magical ending to this year’s festival. Many thanks to all who joined us and for everyone who has supported the Fringe this year.

“We haven’t done the final figures yet, but with so many sold out events it looks like we’ll cover most of the running costs this year.”

Co-founder Corinna Currie commented: “The time is ripe for the southside, and the Southside Fringe wouldn’t have happened without each individual involved. The amount of effort the event organisers, venue managers, performers, musicians, local businesses, volunteers and audiences have put in this year is magnificent and we’re full of gratitude, pride and satisfaction.

“We’ll have a well-earned rest then we ask folks to keep an eye on our social networking — we’ll be keeping the spirit of the Southside Fringe going all year round.”
