Final nail hammered home in Overburns Quarry coffin?

AFTER five long years of campaigning, it appears that the final nail in the Overburns Farm quarry coffin has been hammered home.

Despite its application being rejected twice by South Lanarkshire Council – and a Scottish Government Reporter ruling against the company – Patersons of Greenoakhill had taken its fight to extract sand and gravel at the site, near Lamington, to the Court of Session.

However, Patersons bid was once again thrown out.

So it is now 4-0 to locals, led by the Clyde River Action Group (CRAG), against the quarry giant.

CRAG chairwoman Caroline Parker said: “CRAG members are delighted at this judgement. The application by Paterson’s was made more than five years ago now.

“After two failed planning applications to South Lanarkshire Council, one failed appeal to the Scottish Government and a further appeal rejected by the Court of Session, the process is now exhausted.
