Final push from Better Together Eastwood

Better Together activists took the No Thanks campaign to the streets of Eastwood on Saturday.

Polling passers-by at Broom shops, the group reported an 80 per cent vote for No vs 10 per cent for Yes.

Campaigners were also out in force in Busby, Clarkston, Giffnock, Thornliebank and Netherlee.

East Renfrewshire councillor and campaigner Ian McAlpine believes “the momentum is now with No Thanks”.

He told The Extra: “This is great news and proves that people in Newton Mearns want to stay as part of the UK with increased powers for the Scottish Parliament.

“Months of campaigning will all be worthwhile if we remain part of the UK. We can have a fairer, more equitable, more socially just society but independence is not the way to do it. I hope people will vote No.”
