First Glasgow launches new hospital bus services

Serving Arrival Square at the hospital, services 15 and 16 will run seven days a week up to every 30 minutes ensuring that customers from the northwest of Glasgow can get a direct link to the hospital.

Service 15 will operate up to every 30 minutes, seven days a week, connecting Summerston with Maryhill, Byres Road, Partick and the hospital.

Service 16 will operate up to every 30 minutes, seven days a week, connecting Drumchapel with Blairdardie, Anniesland Broomhill, Partick and the hospital.

The first service 15 journey arrives at Arrival Square around 6.30am, with service 16 arriving 15 minutes later. The last service 15 journey leaves the hospital at 10.28pm and the last service 16 journey leaves at 11.08pm.

Together the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow, which is adjoined to the adult hospital, provide the largest critical care complex in the UK.

Along with First Glasgow service 77 these services will provide up to 10 buses an hour, most of the day, between Partick and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

However, while he welcomes these extra services one Bearsden councillor is calling for a dedicated bus service from Milngavie and Bearsden to the new South Glasgow Hospital Campus.

Many local residents use two types of public transport to get to the hospital – a train and then a bus or two buses.

Councillor Duncan Cumming said: “There should also be a dedicated bus service to make it easier to people from Bearsden and Milngavie to get to the new hospital and I will push for this at every opportunity.”

An SPT spokesperson said: “NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC) has the overall responsibility for transport links to the new South Glasgow Hospital.

“With limited funding, NHSGGC could not provide a direct bus service from every area, some passengers have to change buses. Milngavie and Bearsden benefits from rail connections to Partick interchange which offers frequent onward bus connections to the new hospitals.

“Existing bus routes to the city centre also provide connections to frequent buses.”
