Football tournament for Clutha victims

The event, at 11.30am on Sunday at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, has been organised to raise money for the fund, which was established to support those affected by the tragedy in November when a police helicopter crashed into the Clutha pub in Glasgow.

Teams will be competing in two pools competing for the Clutha Shield.

In pool one, Glasgow City Councillors, led by Councillor Archie Graham, Depute Leader of the Council, will face stiff competition from the Parliamentarians, captained by Ken Macintosh MSP, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Lord Provost’s Select, comprising of famous names and faces from the world of Scottish football. Alan Archibald (Partick Thistle manager), Gus MacPherson (Queen’s Park manager) and Jim Chapman (Annan Athletic manager) will all feature and more names will be revealed on the day.

In pool two, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be going head-to-head while Glasgow City Council staff will take on a Media Select made up of journalists and pundits of Scottish football. All teams will also be supplemented with players from Glasgow Girls FC.

The winners of each pool will face each other in the final match to decide who lifts the Clutha Shield, while the runners up from the pools will play each other for third place.

The tournament will be open to public spectators with volunteers from Glasgow Life collecting donations for the Clutha Appeal Fund.
