He was 60.

In his younger days Ian had a career in corporate finance, and dedicated much of his spare time to Lanark’s voluntary groups and activities.

He launched the Lanimer Silver Club, still the biggest single fundraiser for the celebrations, recruiting agents to sell the tickets round the doors, and used his financial skills to help organisations such as the YMCA, which he served as treasurer.

In being chosen as Lord Cornet he was following in the footsteps of his older brother Leonard.

Ian was treasurer for the early years as the Tolbooth got off the ground and work was carried out to the building to make it fit for the organisations lining up to use it; and he was treasurer of the committee set up to run Lanark’s successful Millennium celebrations.

Ian kept his interest in Lanimers, and was present among the former Cornets on Lanimer Day in June, a proud uncle supporting his nephew Gordon Gray, the 2015 Lord Cornet.
