Forth’s David Thomson celebrates 100th birthday

FORMER miner Davie Thomson celebrated his 100th birthday on Monday with Provost Eileen Logan and Deputy Lieutenant Margaret Morton among the visitors to his home in Longdales, Forth. And he is so young-looking, they were not the only ones assuming he must be the birthday boy’s son when he opened the door to them!

Davie was born at Haywood and in 1929, when he was still just 13, he started work in the pits. He moved to BMC in Bathgate when the pits closed in 1963, retiring at the age of 64.

Davie, a widower who has two sons, Robert and Ian, has always kept fit, attending the gym when he was younger and playing golf at Carnwath.

He still keeps pigeons, and is a keen indoor bowler, playing the odd game at Braehead.
