Free course for young film buffs

Freeze Frame is a free training course for 16-25-year-olds from across Glasgow, teaching participants how to make their way in the world of screening events.

Those involved will have eight weeks in which to learn tricks of the trade, during which they’ll be loaned a budget — this will be paid back through ticket sales for four screening events, and any earnings above will shared among the young movie buffs.

Taking up one of four mentor roles is southsider David Cherry (23), of independent filmmaking company Cherryman Media.

David told The Extra: “It really is brilliant to share this opportunity that creates amazing events and great experiences.

“I started out training on a similar project and now I am running events with everyone from the Glasgow Film Theatre to the Southside Film Festival.

“Choosing and showing films to audiences isn’t easy — it’s full of challenges. There is so much you can learn.

“In the southside, the survival and success of wonderful grass roots organisations such as Southside Fringe, Southside Film Festival, La Roche Rumba and Southside Sessions are dependent on the enthusiasm and skill of the community.

“I hope many people in the southside and around Glasgow take up this opportunity to enrich their community’s culture and I can’t wait to get started.”
