After discussion with local organisations Making the Most of Milngavie (now Milngavie Development Trust), Milngavie In Bloom, Milngavie BID and Citizens Advice Bureau as well as Milngavie Youth Centre there was an agreement to refurbich Milngavie Youth Centre to include public access to toilets and office space for an outreach service delivered by East Dunbartonshire Citizens Advice Bureau.

There will also be an on-site storage shed for Milngavie In Bloom and a stand alone office facility (steel shed type building) to be placed next to the youth centre that would act as an information centre for the town and also provide hot desk space which will be used by organisations including Milngavie Development Trust at designated times.

There will also be ongoing funding of £6,000 per annum for the next tow years to cover cleaning and maintenance of the toilets.

The public toilet facility in the youth centre will be open seven days a week 7.30am to 5pm from March to October and Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm from the end of October to mid-March.

This new toilet facility would allow officers to renegotiate the terms of the lease for USA Q nail salon which is in the former information office building in Milngavie precinct.

Their nail salon’s current lease has a condition that they must allow members of the public to use their toilet.

Milngavie Councillor Eric Gotts said: “The council has worked tirelessly with community groups to meet community aspirations and this project certainly does that.

“The refurbishment of the MYC will not only deliver modern public toilets and a permanent base for CAB in Milngavie but will also ensure the viability of the Centre for its valuable youth work in the area.

“It will also provide much needed on -site storage for the equipment Milngavie inBloom use to undertake the great environmental work it does in the precinct.

“Finally the purchase of a stand alone office facility next to the youth centre will provide information facilities as well as office accommodation for groups such as the Bid Company and the newly formed Development Trust.

“This is a good example of how the council and community groups can work together to resolve issues of concern in the local community in these challenging financial times.”
