Fundraising and bag filling for Malawi

RESIDENTS at the Retail Trust in Newton Mearns have been hard at work fundraising for not one but two charities.

The Crookfur retirement estate’s Residents Association have now raised an impressive £1,160 for Mary’s Meals and the Backpack Project, as well as filling lots of school satchels with educational items.

Both a cheque and the backpacks were handed over to Holyrood secondary pupils and teacher Stuart MacMorris recently, as representatives of the school will be making their annual trip to Malawi later this year.

Sadie Howat, of the Residents Association, told The Extra: “The pupils spent some time chatting to residents, telling them enthusiastically about the work they had achieved and how much they were looking forward to their return visit.”
