Fundraising success for ERGC special bed plea

Charity founder Russell Macmillan appealed to readers in January to help fund a specialist bed for a resident in his 30s with a life-limiting condition.

Russell commented: “We’re asking the community to help fund a double bed with one side powered, so that this husband and wife are able to stay in the same bed.”

The community answered, donating enough to make up the £4,800 cost alongside a donation of £1,600 from East Renfrewshire Council’s social work department, a further third from the family and an initial £500 pledge from the charity.

This week, Russell told The Extra: “I’d like to thank everyone who showed love to their neighbour and donated to a very worthy cause.”
