Fundraising success for Sikh community

THE southside Sikh community are £50,000 closer to a new £4 million gurdwara after a sold-out fundraising dinner.

The event, held at Celtic Park recently, was attended by more than 500 guests from across Scotland, all of whom donated generously for the new build.

The new meeting place on Albert Drive is due to open in April this year, replacing the current facility on Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields.

Surinder Singh, president of the Glasgow Gurdwara, commented: “I’m delighted by the amount we have raised. £50,000 is an incredible figure and way beyond our expectations.

People have been very generous in their donations and I am ever so grateful on behalf of the committee and the wider Sikh community.

“The hard work and kindness of individuals from Sikhs, Muslims and businesses has united the southside of Glasgow”.
