Fundraising tribute to a beloved partner

The Glasgow North Fundraising Group was founded by supporters of the charity, including Billy Gold from Springburn.

He has dedicated himself to the charity since losing his partner Josephine to cancer.

He explained: “I knew very little about the services offered by Marie Curie until my beloved Josephine was admitted to the hospice in August last year suffering from pancreatic cancer.

“In the short time she had left she was treated with the highest levels of kindness, compassion and care, the help and support give to me and her family is something I will never forget or be able to repay.”

He added: “At a fundraiser organised by some of Josephine’s pals I was overwhelmed by the hard work they put in and the generosity of ordinary people, this made me think that somewhere, people had raised the funds that allowed Josephine to receive the level of care she did.

“There and then I pledged to her that I would do the same and dedicate myself to raising funds so others might receive the same care in their hour of need.”

Susan Cuthbert, community fundraiser at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We are delighted to launch our brand new fundraising group. It is absolutely fantastic that we now have a fundraising group in such close proximity to our Marie Curie Hospice.”
