Garage closure leads to Scout storage SOS

45th Glasgow/2nd Kirkintilloch Scout troop, based at Merkland school, currently store camping and games equipment (bought with lottery funding) in a council lock-up in Harestanes.

But they are to be demolished in May, with no other premises currently available.

Troop chairman Colm Heneghan said: “We carry out our Scout meetings at Merkland School where, at present, there are also no storage facilities due to overcrowding.

“We can’t afford to hire other storage as we are already struggling to make ends meet - we do a lot of fundraising but this is just enough to get us through the year.

“We are also seeking adult leaders of any age and gender due to the increase in our numbers - just turn up on a Wednesday or Thursday night at Merkland School from 7pm onwards.”
