Giffnock gathering to welcome in the Games

Orchardhill Parish Church is gearing up for the Games this week with an opening ceremony event planned to keep up the sporting spirit.

The community is invited to watch the action live on a big screen on Wednesday (July 23), with doors open from 6.30pm.

Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic to the free (ticketed) event — to book a place, call 638 3604 or email [email protected].

It’s a fitting celebration for the Giffnock church, which boasts seven members — Kat Moir, David Howard, Lisel Tait, Helen Fletcher, Liz Alexander, Kirsty Davidson, Lindsay Barr and Rachael Thomson — chosen as Clydesider volunteers.

Church officer Isabella Hood was also given the honour of carrying the baton at yesterday’s relay, and an Orchardhill representative told The Extra: “She goes above and beyond the call of duty in welcoming the 40 plus organisations using the church each week.

“The congregation is delighted to see her honoured in this well-deserved way.”
