Giffnock teacher is a top storyteller

GIFFNOCK primary pupils and staff are all behind teacher Emma Taylor, who has reached the final of a national storytelling competition.

Emma is one of six shortlisted for the Times Educational Supplement contest — the only one from Scotland — having filmed herself reading When I Woke Up I Was a Hippopotamus by Tom MacRae (a P2 class favourite).

The footage is available on the TES website, where members of the public can vote for their favourite teacher.

The East Renfrewshire school has issued an appeal for the community to get voting for Mrs Taylor.

If she wins, an episode of the CITV show Bookaboo will be filmed at Giffnock primary.

The teacher commented: “I am absolutely thrilled to have reached this stage. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story to the children, sharing their enjoyment in
it.

“I also thought it would be nice to choose this one, as I had organised a visit to the school last year from the illustrator, Ross Collins.”

To watch Emma’s video, and to vote for the Giffnock teacher, visit the TES website.

The winner will be announced on September 16, and filming at the winning school will take place in October.
