Gill is in the pink for her 21st charity day

Since last year, Gill has been given an award for raising more than £101,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Plans are well in hand for this year’s pink day, being held in Kirkton Church from 10am until 2pm.

Entry is £4 for adults and £2 for children, and that includes tea or coffee, homebaking, sandwiches or meringues.

“There will be lots of craft stalls, cards, children’s books, decorated bottles, personalised items, jewellery, Christmas cards, bags and boxes for sale, as well as a bottle tombola, a raffle and lots of homebaking,” said Gill.

Supervised children’s activities in the Farron Hall will include making reindeer dust, hair-braiding, face-painting and the chance to design a Christmas bauble.

Gill’s newly-published recipe book will also be on sale.

Her charity day began with hosting a group of friends in her home, and that first one raised £90.

Over the years it has grown dramatically, but Gill is modest about her achivements, paying tribute to an “amazing team” who help every year, ladies who assist with baking and with the cutting of the cakes on Friday night and volunteers, now 45 in total made up of family and friends, who help on the day.

“Please come along and bring your friends,” said Gill.

“It’s a great family day out and an excellent opportunity to start your Christmas shopping.”
